Why does it look like I was charged twice?

Explains why a payment may look like a duplicate charge, what is usually a temporary bank authorization, and what to do if both charges are real.

Short answer

If you see two charges that look the same, in most cases it is one of these:

  • A temporary bank authorization that will disappear automatically.

  • Two separate purchases made at different times or for different products.

A real duplicate charge is rare. If both charges remain on your statement, support can verify them and help with a refund if needed.

What usually looks like a double charge

  1. Temporary authorization hold — your bank temporarily reserves an amount during checkout. The hold appears on your statement for a few hours and then disappears. Only the completed charge actually takes the money.

  2. Two separate purchases — sometimes a second tap, a retried purchase, or a different product creates a second real charge. Compare the dates, amounts, and product names.

  3. True duplicate — rare, but possible. If both charges are completed, identical, and stay on your statement, contact support.

How to check

  1. Open your App Store or Google Play purchase history and your bank statement.

  2. Compare the two charges:

    • Same date and time?

    • Same amount?

    • Same product (credits package, subscription, etc.)?

  3. Wait a few hours. Temporary authorization holds usually disappear automatically.

What to do if both charges remain

If both charges stay on your statement and look identical:

  1. Contact support and include:

    • Receipt or order ID for each charge

    • Date and amount of each charge

  2. Support will check the charges and help you with a refund if a true duplicate is confirmed.

Where you see the charge

  • App Store — open the App Store, tap your profile, then Purchase History.

  • Google Play — open Google Play, go to Account → Order history.

  • Your bank or card statement — temporary holds may appear here even when the App Store or Google Play shows only one purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be charged twice if I retry a failed payment?

No. Apple and Google won't charge you twice for the same purchase. A failed attempt may briefly show as a hold, but only successful purchases are completed.

How long does a temporary hold stay before it disappears?

Most temporary holds clear within a few hours, but can take a couple of business days depending on your bank.

Can support issue a refund directly for a duplicate charge?

Refunds are processed by the App Store or Google Play. Support can verify the charges and request the refund through the appropriate platform.

The two charges have different amounts. Is it still a duplicate?

Probably not. Different amounts usually mean two different purchases or a hold that was adjusted.
